How to e-Publish Like a Pro – Whether You Write Or Not

Here’s a quote from a post at the Kindle Board, where Kindle authors discuss just about everything related to publishing eBooks on Amazon, including income:

“I am a prior business owner, I took a leap of faith and closed my business when my Kindle earnings were only $2500/month a few months ago.  So glad I did!  My business had so much overhead, it was crazy.  With writing I have my editor, my cover artist and my formatter — that’s it!  My only fear is taxes, I haven’t started paying quarterly yet — I have no idea what I can really write off.  If these $6800 months continue, I am going to owe a lot.”

Wouldn’t you like to see eBooks you’ve published selling hundreds to thousands of copies every month?  With Amazon paying approximately 70% royalties to the authors, it’s clear that nice incomes are resulting from sales of books that are priced anywhere from $1.99 to $9.99.  Getting a reputation can result in increased sale numbers and rising prices as well.

We’ve studied the fast development of Amazon’s Kindle marketplace in depth.  Authors who are actually making a living from book sales there are situated in what some experts call the “mid-list.”  That’s not writers who appear in the Top 100 lists, though you’d certainly be thrilled to show up there.  They’re more in the 1000 to 6000 lists.  What those numbers mean is how many books are selling better than yours.  So, if you’re at 3000 in your genre, say fantasy fiction, then 3000 books are currently selling better.  That’s not a terribly difficult position to reach … IF you know the best practices and have quality books.
